...Government actors have, it seems, endless reasons to shroud their actions in secrecy; that’s why tools like the Freedom of Information Act and state open records laws are so critical. But it turns out it isn’t journalists who are making the most of FOIA, for instance, but other people—and increasingly, activists working with, but if necessary around, gatekeeper media to achieve social justice goals.
